Cardiff Valley Lines Electrification Programme- Cable Installations

Skilled multidisciplinary teams were deployed across extended day and night working periods to deliver the installation of over 30 km of cable into a variety of containment systems. Works were carried out using Road-Rail Vehicles (RRVs) and winch-operated plant, facilitating safe and efficient cable installation through tunnels, walking routes, level crossings, and operational depots across the Cardiff Valley region.

Cardiff Valley Lines Electrification Programme- HV Jointing & Testing
Work carried out
Specialist cable testing and jointing teams were deployed across multiple shift patterns to support programme delivery, completing in excess of 200 combined cable joints and associated testing activities. The scope of works included the termination and commissioning of substation feeder circuits, with all test results, as-built records, and supporting technical data compiled and formally submitted in accordance with project and client requirements.

In advance of the proposed bridge replacement works, a full asset identification exercise was undertaken to determine all telecoms and signalling cables routed across Bridge DCL 159. Detailed surveys of all associated location cases and lineside cabinets were completed, together with end-to-end continuity and route verification inspections of the fibre-optic cables. A comprehensive asset report was produced, confirming cable routes from origin to termination, identifying ownership, and detailing the operational function of each asset to support safe staging and protection during the works.

Work carried out
Responsible for the planning, coordination, and deployment of all plant, equipment, and cable installation teams throughout the full project lifecycle. This included the completion of all required testing activities and the preparation, validation, and submission of Form E documentation to support energisation and formal entry into service

HS2- Tag & Trace
Balfour Beatty – Vinci JV
Work carried out
Skilled engineering teams were deployed to trace, tag, and verify existing telecommunications assets within a section of track scheduled for removal to enable construction of an HS2 tunnel undercrossing. A detailed asset survey was completed, producing a technical report identifying the locations and extents of all affected telecoms infrastructure between designated Point A and Point B.
All verified assets were tagged and assigned live QR codes, providing contractors with real-time access to asset information throughout the project lifecycle.

HS2-Enabling Works

Work carried out
Full de-vegetation of embankments was undertaken to facilitate access for monitoring stakes and survey locations, enabling emergency monitoring during excavation activities. Drainage surveys were completed to identify existing utilities within each work area, and temporary access gates were installed to provide controlled access to specific locations along the route.
